PVC stands for “polyvinyl chloride,” which is the basis for vinyl flooring, among other things. Vinyl flooring is commonly called PVC flooring in the Netherlands. PVC flooring is very popular because of its advantages over other types of flooring.
Benefits include:
- Wear-resistant and quieter than laminate flooring
- More environmentally friendly
- More height-saving than parquet flooring
- More hygienic and low maintenance than carpet
- Warmer than natural stone
- Safer than cast floors
In short, the flooring with the most advantages! Below, these benefits are explained and a comparison chart of different flooring and laying methods is shown.
Wear-resistant and quieter than laminate flooring
Compared to PVC flooring, most laminate floors have a thin top layer. Most PVC floors are covered with a 0.3 mm top layer or a 0.55 top layer and a PU finish. As a result, PVC floors are more wear-resistant. PVC flooring, unlike laminate flooring, is very quiet and sound-absorbing.
More environmentally friendly
PVC floors are produced environmentally friendly and these are fully recyclable. Floors that comply with the European Chemicals Regulation receive a REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) certificate. Sense PVC has obtained this certification for all of its products.
More height-saving than parquet flooring
A PVC floor is on average 1cm thinner than a parquet floor.
More hygienic and low maintenance than carpet
A PVC floor is easy to maintain with a mop, vacuum cleaner or broom and requires no other special maintenance. This is in contrast to carpet where stains are difficult to remove and the floor cannot be cleaned hygienically as easily.
Warmer than natural stone
Natural stone floors often feel cold. This is because natural stone floors cannot absorb ambient heat. The only way to get this floor warm is to include underfloor heating below. The PVC floors feel warm even in winter and without the use of underfloor heating. This is because PVC flooring does have the ability to absorb the temperature of the environment and heat from above.
Safer than cast floors
The slip resistance of PVC floors is many times higher than the slip resistance of cast floors. So the risk of slipping is much lower than with cast floors.
